One thing that you do not want to have to deal with in your home is pest damage. Pests can be very destructive to your property and end up costing you quite a bit of money. Some of the worst pests to deal with are carpenter ants and termites. Learn how to stop and prevent these problems.

It's best to use a professional pest control company if you suspect that there is a termite infestation already. Get at least three quotes so that you don't get ripped off. At times the prices vary quite a bit. Watch out for long term termite bonding contracts as these can get very expensive overtime. While professionals might seem a bit expensive, they are normally best because they can find other parts of the colony that you might miss. They also can determine if it's a termite problem or a carpenter ant problem as these two are hard to notice the difference between.

If you just got rid of your infestation or you want to prevent them in your home, there are some steps to take. The biggest mistake many make it having wood items touching up against the house. If you have a wood pile, keep it away from the home preferably not touching the ground. Consider using a different ground cover than wood chips for your flowerbeds. Trim bushes back so that they do not touch the house or grow into the side of the house as this can attract pest problems.

Any water issues in the yard need to be taken care of. Get any standing water problems drained properly. If you don't have rain gutters, get those installed. Termites like the moist soil around the foundation of your home. Keep this dry and it helps prevent them.

Lastly, use termite stakes. These are baited stakes that can form a barrier of protection around the home. If a termite comes in contact with the bait, it will pop up alerting you of a possible termite infestation. Then professional or do it yourself methods can be used before the termites reach your home.
